Our History
​Gurudwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, Barrie is a spiritual home for the Sikh community and all visitors. Our mission is to promote peace, seva (selfless service), and the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Everyone is welcome to join in our daily prayers, weekly programs, and langar (free community kitchen).
In May 2024, a group of international Sikh students and young members of the community recognized the need for a Gurudwara Sahib in Barrie. At that time, there was no established Gurudwara in the city. Motivated by their vision and commitment, they came together to raise funds and lay the foundation for a spiritual and cultural hub for the Sikh community.

The first Sukhmani Sahib Path was held on June 2nd, 2024, at 189 Blake Street, Barrie, in the Parkview Community Centre. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Sikh community in Barrie, bringing people together to worship, celebrate, and preserve their faith and traditions.

Following the enthusiasm and support of the Barrie Sikh sangat, in October 2024, the Gurudwara Sahib committee began actively looking for a suitable place to rent with the aim of establishing a permanent Gurudwara Sahib for the community.
April 2025
In April 2025, due to a severe snowstorm in the Simcoe region, there was an electricity blackout affecting Barrie, Midland, and Orillia. People faced major difficulties, including food shortages. On that day, with the support of Malton Gurudwara, the Barrie Sikh community organized a Langar Sewa, serving more than 1,000 meals across the three cities.
July 2025
On July 2nd, 2025, the committee identified the current Gurudwara Sahib building at 143 Ferndale Drive North. After evaluating its geographical location and accessibility from all corners of the city, and completing all necessary due diligence, a conditional offer was made on the property, which was subsequently accepted.​

On July 17th, 2025, before finalizing the opening, the committee sought guidance through the Guru Sahib Hukamnama. Three slips were drawn, and the Hukam confirmed the opening of the Gurudwara Sahib at this location
October 2025, the property was officially purchased to establish the Gurudwara Sahib. With the help of the sangat, renovations began, ensuring the building adhered to Gurmat Maryada and the needs of the community.

November 8 , 2025 – The Gurudwara Sahib was officially opened for the Barrie Sikh sangat.
